NEW SHIPPING PRICES IN JANUARY     

Annual January Price Change Consistent With Industry Practices

Pricing for shipping services — Express Mail, Priority Mail, Parcel Select, Parcel Return Service and some international products — will change Jan. 18.

Overall, shipping services prices will increase an average of 5 percent.

This is the first time the Postal Service is adjusting prices for its shipping services on a different schedule from its mailing service price adjustments. Price changes for mailing services, including stamp prices, will be announced in February, and will be effective in May 2009.

 

JANUARY 2009 UPS/FEDEX Rate Change

UPS and FedEx have announced plans for their 2009 rate change.  Listed below you will find information on the UPS and FedEx rate change. Complete details can be found on the individual carrier websites. 

UPS

UPS will be revising their rates on January 5, 2009.  The new rates include an average increase of 5.9% for UPS Ground packages and an average net increase of 4.9% on all air express and U.S. origin international shipments.

UPS Freight announced a general rate increase of 5.9% for 2009.

The rate increase for air express and international shipments is based on a 6.9% increase in the base rate, less a 2% reduction in the air and international fuel surcharge index.

FedEx

FedEx has announced an Express rate increase effective January 5, 2009.

FedEx Express package and freight rates will increase an average of 6.9% for U.S. and U.S. export services.  The rate increase will be partially offset by adjusting the fuel price at which the fuel surcharge begins, reducing the fuel surcharge by 2 percentage points. 

Additionally, FedEx has announced the following:

  • FedEx Express U.S. import rates will change
  • FedEx Express U.S. rates to Puerto Rico will change
  • FedEx International Premium® rates will change
  • FedEx retail counter rates will change
  • There will be changes to FedEx International Priority® and FedEx International Economy® minimum rates

 

Effective January 5, 2009, FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery® rates will change.  Updates will be posted on the FedEx web site when available.

Furthermore, effective March 2, 2009, FedEx First Overnight® service will be available from Hawaii.  It will also be available to Alaska.  Updates will be posted on the FedEx web site when available.
